I just thought you might like to see how South Hornchurch District have been celebrating the Big Brownie Birthday. Yesterday the 28th May 2014 we embarked on our Euro hop adventure - a day trip to Paris. The day started early with us all meeting at 6.30am to begin our journey. After passports and EHIC's were all accounted for we set of to St Pancras and the Eurostar. We checked into the Eurostar and went through security and passport control (a first for some of our Brownies) before taking our seats on the train. On the train the girls had activity books on the Eiffel tower to pass the time and were served snacks courtesy of Snowy Owl who was only mistaken for a member of train staff once! On arrival in Paris we made our way to the Eiffel Tower on the Paris Metro with only one minor detour via the wrong platform. The metro was a bit more of a tight squeeze than the tube, but we did like the double decker trains!
When we arrived at the Eiffel tower we tucked into our lunch while Snowy got our tickets, she had threatened to make us walk up the stairs (all 600 of them) but luckily she was nice to us and let us get the lift. Up we went to the second floor where four of our old brownies who have just gone upto guides made their Guide promise. After a walk around the tower and some stops for pictures we headed back down and boarded our cruise boat for a trip down the Seine. We had fun listening to the commentary in various languages and wiping out the on board gift shop! We disembarked the cruise and made our made dash through the only rain of the day back to the metro to make our way back to Gare du Nord and the Eurostar home. We arrived back at St Pancras 13 hours after we began our Journey very tired but with lots of stories to tell of our Big Brownie Birthday Adventure. |
