I’m contacting you to let me know about a Community Open Day taking place at North Weald Airfield on 12th July.
This is an annual event which has previously been held in early September but which has been brought forward to July to encourage the involvement of youth organisations.
The event has grown year on year and last year attracted around 4000 visitors, predominantly from west Essex and neighbouring areas.
The main focus of the event is the airfield and its history and the also the local community and community activities.
The main components of the event are:
· an air display lasting approximately one and a quarter hours including the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight Spitfire and Hurricane.
· Static aircraft display
· A fly-in (visiting aircraft arriving for the day)
· This year’s theme is 70th anniversary of the Battle of Britain
· Children’s activities and adventure area including around a dozen inflatable rides (all included in admission cost)
· Arena activities (tbc but including marching bands, dancing and the Supercar (bus, tube train and overground train glued together)
· Community and charity stalls
· Mini zoo / petting farm
· Have a go archery
· Classic and military vehicle display
· Helicopter pleasure flights
· Model aircraft club
· District museum
· Airfield museum
· Council services
· Etc, etc
That’s a taste of what’s there. You will probably find links to previous events though North Weald Airfield’s website and social media.
The reason for me contacting you is because we want to encourage local youth organisations to take part and I thought you may be interested in this as an activity you could attend with young people and also as an opportunity to promote your organisations and recruit members.
You could have your own stand / display area to promote your organisation. If you wanted to bring along promotional activities such as climbing wall, zorbing, etc, we could probably accommodate it (we have a vast area available). If you wanted to do anything in our arena, we would be interested in any ideas.
Also, we will be finishing the day with a parade of veterans, marching bands, royal British Legion, ATC, cadets, etc and would welcome other uniformed groups taking part. We are expecting at least 30-40 standards from unformed organisations in the parade and would like guiding and scouting standards represented as well. A senior dignitary will be there to take the salute along with Battle of Britain veterans.
If you are interested in joining us or want more information, please contact me.
Kind Regards,
